Urodzona w Paczkowie w 1950 roku. W latach 1972-2010 prowadziła galerie sztuki współczesnej o charakterze niekomercyjnym (Galeria PI – pierwsza w Polsce prywatna instytucja kultury, Galeria Pawilon, Galeria Foto-Video, Galeria Potocka). Od 1984 tworzyła międzynarodową kolekcję sztuki współczesnej, która została przekazana do MOCAK-u. Jest członkiem Internationale Künstler Gremium, AICA (w latach 1996-2003 była prezydentem Sekcji Polskiej) oraz ICOM. W latach 1980-2000 wystawiała jako artysta. Od lat jest kuratorem wystaw w Polsce i zagranicą. Jest autorem kilku książek: Malarstwo (1995), Rzeźba (2002), Estetyka kontra sztuka (2006), (praca doktorska), To tylko sztuka (2008), Fotografia (2010), Wypadek polityczny (2010), Nowa estetyka (2016) oraz wielu tekstów teoretycznych i filozoficznych. W latach 2002-2007 wykładała teorię sztuki w Szkole Wyższej Psychologii Społecznej w Warszawie. W latach 2002-2010 była dyrektorem Bunkra Sztuki. Od 2010 jest dyrektorem Muzeum Sztuki Współczesnej w Krakowie, MOCAK.
Born in Paczków in 1950. In years 1972-2010 she was running non-commercial galleries of contemporary art („PI” Art Gallery – the first private institution of culture in Poland, „Pawilon” Art Gallery, „Foto-Video” Art Gallery, and „Potocka” Art Gallery). Since 1984 she has been creating an international collection of contemporary arts to be provided to MOCAK. She is a member of the Internationale Künstler Gremium, AICA (in years 1996-2003 the President of the Polish Section) and ICOM. In 1980 – 2000 she was exhibiting her works as an artist. For years she has been a curator of exhibitions both in Poland and abroad. She is an author of several books: Paintings (1995), Sculpture (2002), Aesthetics versus Art (2006), (doctoral thesis), It is Only Art (2008), Photography (2010), Political Accident (2010), New Aesthetics (2016) and many theoretical and philosophical publications. In 2002-2007 she was a lecturer of the theory of arts in the SWPS University in Warsaw. In years 2002 – 2010 the Head of „Bunkier Sztuki”. Since 2010, the Director of „MOCAK” Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow.
